4 Businesses That Would Be Easier To Market Than The Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons are 9-49 at the moment I’m writing this.
With their latest win they actually moved into a tie with the Washington Wizards for the worst record in the NBA. Remember there is a salary cap in the NBA which means one team can’t simply outspend the other teams to buy ALL the best players. It’s designed to be kinda competitive. So you have to be pretty incompetent to be this awful.
Imagine working in the marketing department… having to post on social media that yep, we lost again… and again… and again… “Come to Little Caesar’s Arena and watch us……..lose!” Ugh. I’ve seen it - they post an optimistic graphic about getting tickets to the next game and they just get destroyed in the comments. Imagine as a business owner if you posted about your product or your service and you got 100 comments “creatively” telling you all the different ways you SUCK. At one point they lost 28 STRAIGHT games this season. That’s an all time record. How bad is it when people are writing articles online about the length of the streak as a way to mark time - like how the sports world changed since the Pistons won a basketball game…?
Since they snapped the streak things have really looked up for the team. Including the win on December 20th they’ve gone 7-20! And this season’s record isn’t exactly an anomaly… The last 4 seasons before this one they went: 20-46, 20-52, 23-59, and 17-65.
As a digital marketer I thought I’d invent 4 businesses with accompanying taglines / marketing pitches that might actually be easier to market than this shit show:
4 Businesses That Would Be Easier To Market Than The Detroit Pistons
The Rare Chicken Sandwich Shack - “We’ll serve your sandwich in a BLINK! Don’t wait - eat it PINK!”
Shoeless Joe’s Shoes - “Save big at Joe’s! We have NOTHING for sale so you won’t need to spend any money! Pat your feet on the concrete and keep your cash in your pockets!”
Crosswired Electricians - “Call us to come fix your appliances and watch the SPARKS FLY!!!”
Titanic Cruises - “Enjoy a trip halfway to your destination! Plenty of activities too to make it memorable such as: Rearranging chairs on the deck, Violin Lessons, Bungee-less Propeller Skull Smacking and the ever-popular Extended Polar Plunge!!!” Too soon…?
Marketers have it rough man…..
