Doug's Rant #11: Help - I'm Confused. Lost. A Rudderless Social Ship...
I’m supposed to be an authority. A thought leader. And I have no clue what to do next.
Help - I’m Confused. Lost. A Rudderless Social Ship…
I do have a disclaimer on this - and that’s the fact that no single digital marketer has a handle on every single platform. If they say they do they’re (probably) lying.
Things usually move fast in social media but at the moment the landscape feels like the ingredients in my Vitamix when I hit the lever on my morning smoothie. And what’s funny about this is here’s a link to a rant I did on the Frameable Faces website almost exactly one decade ago to the day about how there seemed to be a rare lull in the action in social media…
As for the anxiety I have about the current madness, I can’t be the only one feeling this way.
It kinda goes like this (yes this will be one sentence):
Twitter / X became a shit show, and I was finally excited that Bluesky seemed to provide an alternative, so I jumped in and started building there, and it’s still growing with people like Mark Cuban full-throatedly committed to kicking ass there, but now everyone is pissed at Zuckerberg too with some actually leaving all Meta platforms, and I’m hearing a ton about Substack which I just created a profile on but I haven’t decided on the best way to use Substack yet and i just started a group on Facebook for my history blog with the plan to start another for my music snobbery that I’m now questioning the timing of, so I thought I would ask Chat GPT for some Substack tips in case I need to start going in that direction but now I’m wondering if DeepSeek might give me better answers than Chat GPT (you know DeepSeek - the AI app that CRASHED THE STOCK MARKET yesterday), but it’s a Chinese company which could pose a security risk (?) like TikTok which still may or may not exist in a couple months...
😳
And, well….yeah. That’s all I got. Stay tuned for when I figure some of this crap out.
