Writing My Way Out Of Writer's Block: Clubhouse, Cursive, & Politicians...
How’s that for a title?
To clarify, I don’t have writer’s block overall, just social media / digital marketing writer’s block. I’ve actually written plenty about music just in the last couple weeks, so I still have plenty to say in general (you won’t get me to shut up that easily…).
But I haven’t come up with a slam dunk take that has burned a hole in my keyboard about content marketing, Facebook (Meta?), TikTok or any of the rest. Is it a case of writer’s block or have things been relatively quiet? Quiet in that no new game changing platforms have appeared, no major shifts in strategy or algorithms have taken place (relatively speaking of course)…….right? Hey if something huge happened that I missed let me know, or if you want to know my take on something let me know and I’ll write about it! Lol…
Some random thoughts
Okay so I do have thoughts though - not sure any of them are worthy of a blog post on their own but maybe as a list they’ll work. Let’s do this:
I haven’t checked out Clubhouse in a long time. I kinda thought it sucked and I’m pretty sure I was right. As a matter of fact I’ll leave it to one of my favorite rappers / TV actors Ice T to sum up why:

Oh here’s one I had jotted down: I can barely write in cursive anymore. It’s WEIRD. The conversation came up here in our studio about handwriting, and I have very neat handwriting. My signature is really nice too which IS in cursive. But for kicks I tried to write a sentence in cursive and I struggled. Like actually struggled. Give it a try…

YIKES. Am I drunk??? And I had to THINK about it while writing it…
This happened a little while ago already but I am pretty excited that Instagram finally allowed links in stories. They held out for SO LONG on this. It’s nice to be able to drive a little traffic without relying on “link in bio”. I was just complaining about this last July!
Not a political statement but another I made a note of recently but hadn’t used: President Biden’s twitter account is boring AF. At one point I counted 15 tweets (among others) in 7 days that simply all said “middle class folks shouldn’t pay more in taxes than big companies” - just worded slightly differently. Whether you agree or disagree no brand should use social media to be this boring. Selling at the audience ad nauseam. Buy my widgets! Buy my widgets! Buy my widgets! Over. And. Over. And. Over. Although come to think of it, most political messaging sucks - think about the barrage of horrible commercials around election time and the signs that litter your entire community… As a side note, if brands shouldn’t be so boring like President Biden’s twitter they obviously also shouldn’t go so far extreme in the other direction that they get kicked right off the platform like President Trump… As I said - not political - both Presidents in question and most politicians in general have the WORST content. I get that in today’s environment it’s tough to be exciting in general as a partisan politician, but yuck. Just my two cents and let it be a lesson for your brand. Don’t be boring and don’t be extreme. Nothing wrong with just plain ol’ interesting, entertaining, engaging and valuable.
