Why Do I Need Social Media For My Business?
I sent the following to myself in a text the other night at 1:55 AM while lying in bed:
I do this sort of thing a lot, and I thought this simple epiphany would make for a good blog post.
Why Do You Need Social Media For Your Business?
Why do you need social media for your business? Because at its most basic, social media shows you have a pulse. That you’re a going concern. That you’re here. Now I wouldn’t recommend that you post content that sucks and waste time and resources on a lame or nonexistent strategy, but even content that sucks can at the very least indicate that you’re trying or that you’re alive. Isn’t that better than not existing in the consumer’s mind at all?
Okay maybe the answer to that is barely……which ain’t great. But you get my point.
People and businesses are ONLINE during a pandemic…
It’s more important than ever to be online during a pandemic because people have more time on their hands to be in front of a screen - computer, smart phone, tablet… And people want connection in the absence of a lot of in-person interaction so where do they go to get that? Social media. So you need to show up.
Now, the opportunity is in the showing up and showing up well. With cool content. Content that informs, content that entertains - content that has some kind of value. When people see that and their life improves just a hair - even if it’s because they smiled, or found out a factoid they didn’t know, or salivated and got excited about the idea of carrying out a burger - whatever it is - it validates them being there. And if you were the source of the validation you’ll elevate to the top of their mind, reinforcing their feelings about being your client or attracting them to become one.
Does this sound ridiculously simple? It kinda is. Now how you do all of that isn’t always as simple as it sounds, but make no mistake about it - the psychology behind why you should do it is real and the question about whether to do it or not shouldn’t really be a question at all.
